In response to COVID-19, we have fast tracked our HSCN connected Virtual PCs, meaning clinicians working remotely can use their own computer to securely access their clinical system via the HSCN network without any additional hardware.
Initially this was using organisations' own VPN on the virtual PCs, but with an HSCN connection now in place a VPN is no longer required.
A week or so later Virtual Smartcards were approved and centrally funded by NHS Digital (https://digital.nhs.uk/coronavirus/coronavirus-smartcards/virtual-smartcard-systems); meaning the national shortage of card readers was no longer an issue either. This means our Virtual PC solution is now a full plug-and-play 'bring your own device' solution.
